The All Consuming Fire (an Emergence Story)

Leo New Moon, 16 August 2023
As I first sat down to allow this edition of Cosmic Light to flow through, we were in the heart of the Sun, or perhaps another way to say this is ‘our heart was kissing the sun’.. Venus the planet of Love and relationships, symbol of beauty and love, of deepest desire and the creational power of the divine feminine was at her Star Point, moving through a conjunction with the Sun, an event that happens about every 18-19 months. The last Venus passage through the center of the Sun occurred back in October of 2022 in the sign of Libra (for the first time is very long time) but I digress – This particular Venus Star Point occurs as Venus and the Sun move through the 20th degree of Leo, the Sun moving forward and Venus moving backward, with Kali along for good measure - All the while the Moon, already in her dark phase, is exactly conjunct with the stellar dimension of Sirius, which is in the process now of re-emerging from its Solar return.
That was a lot of data points to open us up but it felt important to lay this little groundwork as we move towards the New Moon in Leo which occurs at 2:38am Pacific on the 16th of August. All New Moon’s invite us into the Void (the no-thing) to feel the fullness of the creative potential that therein resides, gather the glittering light from this space and bring it with us back to the all-thing dimensions, to make the unmanifest, manifest - the no-thing is where we plant and sow the seeds of creation. When Luna, and the Sun meet it is an access point to the energies of the Divine Union and our full creative potential.
This particular New Moon being in Leo helps us forge our creative potential; this brings to mind a glass blowing shop, the use of Fire to melt the sand, the air that is used to shape it and the water that rapidly cools the newly formed object de arts.
Another remembrance of the beautiful energy of fire has just come through. I am sitting at a little cafe and Redemption Song by Bob Marley just came on – “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery for none but ourselves can free our minds”. The really funny part is that I was just about to share that there are no planets in air signs during this lunation (this does not, however, mean Air is completely unrepresented, more on this to come).. When I learned that none of our major planets were in Air signs I was given a fun little puzzle piece, Fire consumes Oxygen (Air), a symbolic representation of our Mental Plane, our mental plane can indeed fuel the fire of our spirit, but in the process we are also asked to let our thoughts not consume us but be consumed.. A couple weeks ago a new mantra (prayer) rose up within me during meditation that feels so perfect for this particular energy “Help me to re-lease what I think to make space for what I know” allowing me to move from that deeper knowing or gnosis, that rises up from within and yet seems also to come from some place outside of self, from the higher self where the connection between the all-thing and the no-thing resides. Fire also consumes Carbon (matter), a reminder that this purification asks to be taken all the way into our physicality, this is where the space is made, clearing out the old patterns that have us in lock-step with what is no longer true. The alchemical marriage between Water and Fire is a bit different, here we can extinguish the flame, we can dampen it - our emotional beingness can indeed douse our spirit. We can get locked in grief or fear of change - we can stay in relationships or places that are no longer for us because we can feel the flickers of Love that are there. However if we flip the script we can allow our spirit to bring our emotions to a boil, heating them up, re-leasing steam, changing their form and allowing for greater movement.
This is actually how new land is made; when the alchemical marriage between Fire (Molten Lava) and Water (The Ocean) occurs the molten flow is transformed to rock; steam releases from the water into the Air, creating clouds which in turn rain down purified water upon this new land allowing for the growth of tender new sprouts of green moss and grass.
Alright with that let’s bring in the Sun, Moon and other players in this cosmic fire dance. I call it a fire dance because there is a lot, I mean A LOT of Fire in this Leo New Moon chart, including not one but two Grand Fire Trines -shall we call them in..
Introducing that beautiful great big fire ball, the nuclear reactor, the Star that warms our planet and provides the light and energy that allows me to write these words right now, The Sun - in conjunction with the Earth’s orbital companion, we call her Luna, she is also known as The Moon - these two, the former representing our outward expression of self and the later our un-subconscious realms are, of course, in Leo, tightly conjunct the primordial feminine energy of Black Moon Lilith, the unsubmissive; an access point to the profound creative potential that is sometimes called the Void. Whenever these three dance together you know there are gonna be some fireworks - When they are in Trine to the North Node conjunct Eris in Aries and the Galactic Center in Sagittarius, it is gonna be one hell of a show… Then almost close enough to be part of the “main event” we have another Grand Fire Trine with the aforementioned retrograde Venus, has emerged from her Star Point but is still obscured from sight (not yet risen in our pre-dawn skies) and traveling with Kali in Leo; this potent pair is making a Trine to the wounded healer Chiron currently backstepping through Aries and the Great Attractor over in Sagittarius.
As we explore what these Trines mean from an energetic perspective let’s begin with the later then move to the former. Kali conjunct retrograde Venus in Leo, indicates that our relationship to our full creative and life force potential is being highlighted, also that we are going to be asked to let this fire burn deep, revealing things about ourselves and the life that we’ve created around us that is no longer true for us; when we bring the retrograde Chiron into the mix we are asked to witness where we have been creating from wounded self, and to explore what we might create if we brought our unconscious and subconscious beliefs to the surface, allowing our true selves to radiate out; the Great Attractor comes through clearing away the smoke, dust, and debris that has been kicked up in this firestorm, allowing new oxygen to form and the flames to grow stronger, to burn deeper and to kick up even more.
The Sol-Luna Grand Fire Trine lights up the gifts that are on offer when we let the aspects of us that are the divine masculine and the divine feminine collide. The New Moon is always a reflection of the Divine Union, in this case with Black Moon Lillith along for the ride and Eris over in Aries conjunct the North Node we are being gifted a beautiful bonfire of the vanities, a place where we can see all the ways where we asked our true light to dim, where we suffocated our eternal flame in order to feel like we fit in, that we belonged; where we operated under the illusion that we must play small, be less powerful, that if we let our full radiant creative That I Am shine through we could be left for dead, locked away or even killed. These may seem like extreme examples but if you have a lineage connection to the Witch (this could be a relative, not all that long ago, who was a midwife and burned at the stake for practicing witchcraft just as easily as it could be a former incarnation of your soul that experienced the same or similar) and/ or the Magician you can start to see where these fears may also strike a match within you. In this can you also feel how profound the connection between these two Grand Fire Trines is…
As we cycle through this Trine, coming into greater connection with the chaotic creator that we are, the Galactic Center comes in and reminds us that we are vaster than we have previously imagined, and that as we explore our depths it is our light that we find.
Here now I find us called to the water energy of Neptune, flowing backwards through the sign of Pisces, inviting us to flow in retrograde through the elemental pentacle - journeying from Fire to Water, bringing energy to our potential as we allow our Higher Heart to help us see through the veils. It is the steam that rises as the water of our being begins to boil - that helps to clear away any impurities, to distill our spirit. Neptune is in a long running square to the Galactic Center which at this moment is actually T-Square with the divine mother energy of Isis who sits at 27 degrees of Virgo (the sign of the purification, the Virgin), she is exactly across the wheel from Neptune at 27 of Pisces both exactly Square the GC at 27 of Sagittarius; this crew feels like an amazing call back to how new land is made. It also begins to connect us to the Air that is available to us during this Lunation…
To get there we must continue our travels in the Earth sign Virgo and the Water sign Pisces, first the Earth..
Not far at all from Isis we find a tight conjunction between Mars (22), Mercury (19) and Pallas (17); the center rung of this ladder, Mercury, will be shifting retrograde on the 23rd of August and journeying backwards through Virgo for 23 days.. The three have been traveling near one another through Virgo for a couple weeks now, helping us to access the places where we have been at war with our true nature as bridges between the Heavens and Earth; they are also currently in a tight Square to the Eternal Flame herself, Vesta, sitting at 21 degrees of Gemini - can you feel the potent fuel, the oxygen, that Vesta in the home sign of Mercury in tight Square to the same offers us? The Virgo players in this Square are also just a smidge off from connecting to the T-Square that Isis is making with Neptune and the GC; Mars, et. al. being in the earlier degrees it almost feels like they are stoking the fires, allowing an ever greater purification to occur. As we continue to travel backwards down the number lines, we find Medusa at 9 degrees of Gemini in Square to the Retrograding Magdalena (7) and Saturn (4) in Pisces; if Vesta and the Mars players are stoking the fire, it feels like these three are adding the water to the cauldron, they’re connecting us to the depths of our feminine and masculine separation wounds asking if we really still believe ourselves to be separate; Medusa in Gemini says, are you sure you still need those chains around your creative potential, are you ready to let go your mind (off with your head), let the the water of your grief and pain boil, let these old hurts feel the flame of your spirit, rise into steam and fall again as gentle droplets of liquid light that will lubricate your being once again.
All this and we haven’t even talked yet about the still running and tighter than ever T-Square between the Nodes of Fate and Pluto, with a lovely Leo kicker in the form of Juno, who just left Cancer and is now playing with Fire at the zero point of Leo. This is creating what I like to call a Cardinal Grand Cross with a Fixed Kicker.. The Cardinal, birthing energy is the dominant force - especially when we take into account that Juno, represents the Mother and is strongly associated with Cancer. Here we can feel her as connecting to that Golden Kali Ma sort of energy, the mother yes, protective and nurturing but she is not going to let you stay small, she is going to ask you to make all the necessary changes so that you shine brighter, and fulfill your truest soul potential; this is not some ‘stage mother’ asking you to walk her dreams to shine brightly upon the stage of life so that she may live vicariously through you; this is the mother that lifts you up, sees all the potential you have and celebrates whatever the voice of your soul sings.
Calling in Juno, who is the wife of Zeus invites us to come full circle again, back to Kali herself and Venus, who sitting at 18 degrees of Leo are in Square to Jupiter (14) in Taurus, a Square made all the more interesting when we cast our vision ahead and note that when Venus reaches 12 degrees and 12 minutes of Leo on the 4th day of September she returns to forward motion once again, at the same moment that Jupiter begins its backwards dance through the earthy realms of Taurus, a sign also ruled by the planet Venus… This Square with Jupiter (in retrograde shadow) allows us to get deeper into our bodies as we re-member our true creative potential to even greater degrees; Taurus is connected to the material world and all forms of manifestation. As this expansion is occurring we find Uranus at 23 degrees Taurus, and also in the shadow of retrograde which begins on the 29th, is waking up even more of our potential in an exact square to the Sun and Moon at 23 and BML at 24 of Leo..
Here we really start to feel the subheading of this edition of Cosmic Light (An Emergence Story), yes we are in a cycle of death, of letting go and of falling away - but as with all things even as once thing dies another is born - here too we find that as we are in the crucible of this New Moon, the Stellar Dimension Sirius is emerging from the depths and rising in our pre-dawn skies, as Venus too will do over the next week her shift from Evening Star to Morning Star complete - she will be gifting us even greater access to our depths as she rises in the morning sky while still in retrograde motion - casting this light into our shadows. Uranus in Taurus though in exact Square to the Sun and Moon what a powerful offering of tangible emergence, the lightning strikes and we feel the burn, electricity courses through our veins and nerves this is what we often hear called Kundalini energy, it is embodied Lightning, an element ruled by Uranus, this is why the planet is called the great awakener, in the sign of embodied beingness, connected like this to the Sun, Moon and BML is a powerful representation of the moment when the Fire of our Spirit, rises to the ethers (soulstar) which activates and rains down ever more of our divine lightness of being into our physicality; we emerge, shake off the dust and the cycle begins anew.
This is a powerful cycle of growth and transformation, go easy with yourself - growing pains are called pains for a reason. Let the grief move when it needs to move, allow your body to rest when you need rest, cold showers if that feels right, drink lots of clean water and ground ground ground! Move your body when it feels like you need to move, dance and sing, howl at the moon and the sun, let the language of light flow through your being and did I mention Ground Ground Ground! Allow for moments of stillness and of play as you explore all that you are called to create.
