Taurus Full Moon Eclipse, 28 October 2023
In the end we begin again… As I opened my computer to bring through this edition of Cosmic Light in the days before the Taurus Full Moon Eclipse blooms, it is these words and variations of them that are flowing through. When we speak of eclipses from an esoteric, metaphysical or archetypical perspective the resonance is transformation, metamorphosis. We eclipse things in and we eclipse them out, as we move into these cycles, which generally include 2-3 eclipses. The Moon and Sun move across the nodal axis, and through the signs in which the line of destiny is traveling. Eclipses connect the fiery outward expression of self energies of the Sun and the reflective introspective energies of the Moon with the North and South Node (our past and future destiny), in the case of a Solar Eclipse both the Sun and Moon are found traversing across just one of the Nodes, as was the case during the Ring of Fire Eclipse on the 14th of October, which crossed the South Node in Libra. This was an opening not simply as it began the Eclipse Cycle (Wormhole) in which we currently find ourselves, but also because it was the first Libra Eclipse in about 8 years (we did have an Aries Eclipse this spring however that was before the nodes had officially shifted). This Ring of Fire Eclipse also opened a cycle of Total Solar Eclipses which are forming a cross through the state of Texas in the US, the second being the New Moon Total Solar Eclipse in Aries in April 2024. This is the cycle that is beginning, and it is connected deeply to Justice, Judgement, Strength and Empowerment, to rising up in our truth and saying Here I Am (Aries North Node) and returning to our relationships from a place of empowerment and trust (Libra South Node).
As this cycle begins another closes, we find ourselves leaving behind the Taurus-Scorpio Nodal Axis not to return again until the North Node enters Scorpio in 2031. This cycle brought with it much transformation; holding an energetic template that helped us navigate our shadows and ask tough questions about how we manifest, about our relationship with embodied life, the fullness thereof and death, the mysteries thereof.. So as we move into the Earthly underworld of this Taurus Full Moon Eclipse we may find ourselves reviewing and revising what we have learned over the last 18 months, new previously hidden from view trauma vignettes may rise to the surface; gifting us with access to long buried fears that were running a background script in our lives. As we allow these old narratives to rise up we can with our loving attention; using the tools now available to us through our journeying; decode the messages within, letting the old code that is no longer necessary for the where we are going move through and be transmuted giving the seeds space to root and grow into the foods that will nourish us as our expedition continues anew.
There are many cosmic energies that are holding the map for us, some are helping us clear away the brush as others are setting the paving stones. Let’s invite some of them in shall we..
This being the season of the witch, we will begin with the Guardian of the Crossroads and Queen of the Witches herself. Hekate.. As the Full Moon Eclipse peaks on the 28th of October at 1:24 pm Pacific, we find this Lunar Goddess at the Zero (0) degree of Virgo, in an exact opposition to Saturn, the Lord of Karma and Time; the ringed planet has been traveling backwards since mid-June and recently ‘parked’ at the Zed degree of Pisces. This Retrograde pilgrimage through Pisces found us retracing all the steps we took, all the foundations we built between March when Saturn first entered Pisces and June when its retrograde began. During the last couple months Saturn has had a traveling companion, as the asteroid named for the Magdalena joined this excursion through the early degrees of Pisces and back again. Magdalena’s asteroid actually made it all the way back to the 28 of Aquarius before she turned around last week, she will be passing back into Pisces around the 17th of November and in an exact conjunction with Saturn at the 0 point of Pisces once again (this is an important week which I will share more about in time).
First back to Hekate and this opposition with Saturn.. Virgo the energy of the whole reclaimed feminine, not the whole reclaimed woman though yes that too, but the reclaimed and whole feminine; Hekate is also a powerful symbol of the energy, all of the ‘triple moon goddesses’ are.. They represent the phases and stages of incarnate life - we call them the Maiden, the Mother and the Crone, however these ‘labels’ are so much more than the often limited definitions they are given and reflect humanities journey not simply that of the human female.
In the Maiden we can find the joy and playfulness of youth; the carefree existence where all of life is an adventure, everything is new, we have not yet lost contact with the mystical and mythical beings that populate this world, it is the ‘springtime of our lives’; The Mother is that aspect of each of us that having played in the garden and learned from our play begins to plant fruits of our own; we venture out into the world to make our mark as it were; The Crone phase of our passage is unique, you see for each of us we pass through the Maiden phase, we are born into the world anew - some are made to grow up ‘too fast’ others are kept for various reasons in a state of perpetual adolescence; most however will make it in one form or another to the ‘Mother’ phase, as we begin to, often unconsciously, create the world around us. In the era from which we are emerging, many never leave this place, creating not from their unique soul gifts and the wisdom held within their depths but from the templates placed upon them by parents and the social structures where they were born. The Crone phase of life really only begins after you have explored your own depths, in the tale of Persephone (who is actually exactly Trine Saturn, at 0 of Scorpio) this would be when she left the garden to explore the underworld and through this deep diving found the Queen within. The Crone rhymes with Crown for a reason… When I say we have entered the ‘season of the witch’ I do not simply speak of the Samhain, All Hallows Eve, Dia de Los Muertos season, I mean that as we begin our emergence from this current Eclipse Wormhole we are emerging into the era of the Crone.
Many of us have spent the last couple years diving deep, not running from our shadows but inviting them to share with us the stories and wisdom they hold; staring into these black expansive mirrors, facing our deepest fears and exclaiming ‘no more’ to going along to get along.. This has not been without sacrifice, when we look into our cellars we often find things that hurt us, places where we hurt ourselves and others, sometimes in big and others seemingly small ways, which left a mark on our souls. We see those places where we were hurt and did not stand up and say no, and where we victimized ourselves by denying our true power. As we overturned each of these rocks, and shone light into the darkest corners of our being we found our strength, the gifts of our true creative potential, we accessed more clues about our soul’s karmic mission and the unique expression of life that we have come here to radiate. Now we are being asked to rise from this place, to accept our crowns (our Cronedom), to in essence become the elders that will help light the torches for those who are beginning their own journeys into the depths. This is the aspect of Hekate that we call the Guardian of the Crossroads, from this place of Cronedom our torch is bright, we are able to navigate the various paths and where once we may have gotten lost, we see more easily; this doesn’t mean there are no more shadowlands to explore, simply that we have more tools at our disposal with which to navigate them. As we continue our torches grow brighter still, as does our ability to cast light into the darkness for others. This does not mean walking their path for them or trying to fix the cracks in their roads (you are invited to feel the ‘wounded mother’ that is present there) but rather to hold your torch aloft and be a witness to their journey, to be a teacher, a confidant, a guide, to share the wisdom you’ve gained along your journey in that way which is your soul's truest expression. For some this could be as a Duola (birth and/or death), for others it will be as spiritual ‘coach’ or guide, the medicine being/ shaman that helps them access the depths, the multitude of expressions are as abundant as there are souls embodied. In this soliloquy you are invited to feel into Saturn anew, to feel the Lord of Karma and Time as ‘he’ traverses the dreamtime and higher heart energies of Pisces, especially at this 0 point, which is the realm of the voidwalker; feel the drilling down as the ringed planet slowly begins to station here. Invite this drillinging down to help you access those old karmic patterns that blocked your ability to feel love wholly; to renegotiate contracts as you drill down even deeper and see those places where you engaged with another soul, with a parcel of land or made a vow that no longer serves, let the drilling down expand widen and enlarge the text that you may read more clearly the ‘fine print’ of your soul contract, the minutiae of your karmic mission.
As we do this, let’s invite some other players to join the party; first by traveling in Trine to the Magdalena asteroid (28 Aquarius), where at 29 of Gemini we find the Medusa asteroid and at 28 of Libra we find the Isis asteroid; these three are each beautiful archetypal representations of reclamation and coming back into wholeness; Medusa and Magdalena in particular hold the thread of taking back our stories, by which I mean taking back our power. As we stop allowing others to dictate who we are or should be, we reclaim the power that is our truest expression of self; this is true within the story of Isis as well, we see her at one point of her story grieving the loss of her partner Osiris, then through this dark journey rising up, re-membering her power, the creative force of life that she truly is, and through this re-membering also him; we are invited to experience this as a re-membering within us the divine aspects of the masculine in union with the divine aspects of the feminine. As the ability to both witness and create, to be the sky and the storm, the dancer and the stage is re-membered, through wholeness; we are freed to step into the role that most serves the particular situation in which we find ourselves and that which is the truest expression of our soul. For some of us this will be holding the feminine thread more strongly, for others the masculine, for others still it means to be fluid within them flowing like a kite upon the breeze. It is finding our highest Expression (Air Grand Trine) that they are templating as we pass through the remnants of this closing cycle into the new that has already begun to form.
As we move through this Air Grand Trine, Medusa invites us to cast our gaze back once again, like checking the drawers and closets before you leave a hotel room, to make sure you haven't forgotten your shoes. We find the Gorgon Goddess in opposition with the Galactic Center, so the light we cast back is bright and shines into all the corners; while Kali (29 Virgo) in opposition to the retrograde Neptune in Pisces lets her golden light help us to claim the gifts that were hiding therein; this is a very potent Mutable grand Cross and the way I have been feeling it is in that place where anger and fear meet, all those scary stories and things that go bump in the night - our demons, the things that were just too painful to see so we hid under the covers recycling our hot breath. For most of us what is hiding in this closet is a ‘monster’ that we had not previously been ready to witness; which because of all the amazing work we have done is now risen to the surface. For myself this gift has been given to me by an aspect of my inner child who is feeling safe enough now to show me a painful truth. This is part of the beauty of Kali in Virgo opposite a Retrograde Neptune in Pisces, we get to see the wools that were pulled over our eyes, even and especially those wools which we ourselves placed there. This memory that my younger self shared with me was of an experience when I was about 11/12 years old, a moment of monumental impact upon not just my life but my entire family. It was related to the reaction of my Mother when I shared a truth with her, because the reaction itself was painful, I looked instead at the mask that was placed upon this reaction. I let this mask become the truth in order to protect myself and as time went on I let myself ‘forget’ that it was actually a mask. That the re-membering of this mask should come now as Medusa (remover of masks) is exactly square with Kali (revealer of truths) and in Mutable Grand Cross with Neptune and the Galactic Center is no surprise, rather it is a perfect example of the type of cycling out that this Taurus Full Moon Eclipse has on offer for us. For me it means allowing her rage to move through my being (in healthy ways), to allow the full expression of the fear and trauma that she (young me) experienced, and to not look away nor leave. To let her feel and know that I am here to witness and hold her/ me through it all.. Which is another way of being fluid in our masculine and feminine energies - As I not simply ‘allow’ but rejoice in the storm of revelation that my younger self has gifted me, while also being the sky which holds that storm. To let the tsunami roil and be in love with all of it, as it is part of me and I of it. Then as the waves calm again, extend an invitation and a hand that we may walk together along the beach through the debris that the storm kicked up, reviewing each piece in the light of day, to determine where it now belongs.
Earlier I mentioned that the week of the 17th when Magdalena rejoins Saturn at the 0 degree of Pisces is important.. I am called now to circle back to this place, as I do so I first call upon the energy of Persephone, who you may recall is actually in an exact trine with Saturn during this Full Moon Eclipse at 0 of Scorpio, she is not alone for the Hawaiian Goddess of Regeneration Haumea tipped who recently over to this point; she will remain in the early degrees of Scorpio for quite some time having an orbital period of about 283 years.. When I mentioned that this is a cycle of endings to make way for the new Haumea is part of this templating, she is one of many long orbit planets, dwarf planets and asteroids who are changing(ed) signs this year and over the next couple, a list which includes all of our outer orbit planets - it is mathematically mindblowing to have so many all changing signs in the same 4-5 year period - OK back to Persephone with Haumea at 0 of Scorpio, in Trine to Saturn.. Wait, can you feel that? It was precisely this energy, the gift of transformation along the timelines that we were gifted as the movement of these long orbit bodies came through… It was running not just as we called in these shifting energies but also as Hekate explored the crossroads with us in Opposition to Saturn, she is after all in Sextile to Scorpio pair.. This Scorpio pairing also helps us connect back into the Sun, which is passing now through Scorpio as the Moon readies to ingress through Taurus, creating our Full Moon Eclipse, which will occur while each is at the 5 degree of their respective sign. Putting them in close proximity to the retrograding Jupiter now at 11 degrees of Taurus and to Mercury and Mars at 10 and 11 of Scorpio respectively. Bringing Mars into an exact opposition to Jupiter. Let’s invite this to move through us shall we, first through the energy of fiery Mars in Scorpio, for me this has been presenting as the river of molten lava that encircles the core of the Earth warming the water at the bottom of the Ocean and all of our ground waters. It is through this alchemical marriage of fire and water that much of the land masses of Gaia have formed.. It is the roiling of this lava that shifts the tectonic plates, rising to the surface old long buried secrets and that creates the sulfuric vents that give life to the largest populations, and often tiniest in scale, beings who call this planet home in the vast mostly unexplored depths of Gaia’s oceans. Mars is a symbol of the fire that burns within us urging us forward, we call this energy the warrior but it is not the energy of killing or powering over, rather it is the fight and drive within each of us to create more, to bring more of ourselves into the world. In this opposition to Jupiter we can feel Mars (and Mercury) being given an expanded role, to let the Warrior speak as it were and re-member that this aspect of our being seeks not to fight but to love. As we continue into November the Sun will be drawing ever closer to Mars and by the 18th, with Mercury now in the fiery realms of Sagittarius, they will join together. We will speak more about this in the next edition of Cosmic Light but this alchemical marriage, this union between our Sol Light and our Love Warrior in our previously unexplored depths is one of the signature energies of November and as we navigate this closing cycle it is a beautiful reminder that the new that is already being formed ‘beneath the surface’.
